Our Purpose & Values

Purpose

purpose
Our purpose is to be a genuine community united in Christ, where we learn, grow and serve together. Above all else, we are to be a community who loves Jesus and lives to make Him known!

Values

Worship

Worship is not limited to just the kinds of things we do when gathered as God’s people. It’s not only or mainly a matter of singing, giving financially, teaching, and prayer. Rather, true worship includes every part of our lives!
Romans 12:1

Prayer

We desire to be a Christian community which acknowledges its dependence on God and so we seek to encourage prayer in the lives of all our church family. In prayer, we express adoration toward God, we give him thanks, we confess our sins and we make requests of him.
Matthew 6:9-13; Philippians 4:6

Community Life

We are committed to being a community that is led by the Holy Spirit, prayerful, caring and compassionate and where every person is challenged and enabled to grow towards wholeness in every part of life.
John 13:13, 35; Hebrews 10:25

Sharing Jesus

We recognise that it is the responsibility of every Christian to demonstrate and share the wonderful news of Jesus with those within their lives who do not yet know Him.
1 Peter 3:15

Spiritual Leadership

We recognise that God sets apart leaders to care for his people. The New Testament identifies these leaders as shepherds, pastors, elders and overseers. We want to affirm and support those in leadership as they guard and equip the church for ministry.
We also recognise that God sets apart spiritual people to serve as deacons (called CLT representatives at OBC) administering the day-to-day affairs of the church.
John 21:16-17; Acts 20:17-18, 20:28; Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-9; 1 Peter 5:1-2

Biblical Teaching

We are committed to teaching the whole counsel of God, and to systematic Bible teaching expressed in a way that is relevant and meaningful.
2 Timothy 3:16-17

Advocacy

We are committed to being a Christian community that is sensitive and responsive to the needs of the world. We are committed to working for justice as well as preaching the gospel.
Matthew 25:31-46

Participation

God has not called us to be passive spectators, rather He has called us to be active participants. We know that every disciple of Jesus has been gifted to serve in the building up of the church and we want to help people discover and use these gifts and talents.
1 Corinthians 12:4-7
